Fall Theater
Rutgers-Camden Fine Arts Department/Theater Program
Dramatized by Hamilton Deane and John L. Balderston
from Bram Stoker’s classic novel
October 30-November 7
Stoker’s famous novel is so much more than a horror story. Critics and scholars have analyzed its religious and political themes, critiqued it from a feminist perspective, and called it a “novel of alienation.” But there is no denying that its thrills and chills are also immensely entertaining. It was an immediate bestseller when it was published in 1897, and it has never been out of print. This stage adaptation, a classic example of the genre of melodrama, has proved to be just as popular. The original production ran for eighteen years. The Rutgers-Camden production will feature realistic sets and period costumes to recreate the gothic atmosphere of the time when the dreaded vampire stalked his victims.
