Auditions: Jazz Ensemble

The Rutgers-Camden Jazz Ensemble provides a challenging, yet supportive environment for musically skilled students to experience the long tradition of jazz in its many stylistic forms. The course is taught as a two semester sequence: the Fall semester focuses on early jazz through the swing era; the Spring semester focuses on bebop through the late twentieth-century. The emphasis is on learning authentic repertory and playing classic arrangements. While opportunities will exist for solos, students need not be experienced improvisers to join the RCJE; most of our work will be creating a smooth, professional ensemble sound.

  • Rehearsals are held once a week.
  • There will be several performances on campus each semester.
  • The RCJE is open to non-music majors. All students need to have developed musical skills: ability to read music; at least an intermediate level of facility of your instrument; and the willingness to practice outside of rehearsals and contribute to the group.

Interested students should contact Prof. Eric Polack (ude.sregturnull@kcalop.cire) for further information.
