JEFFREY FILBERT studied at the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA). At graduation he was awarded the Scheidt Traveling Scholarship, which he used for a year to further his studies throughout the museums of Europe. He has won numerous awards, the most recent being The New Jersey Council on Arts Grant for sculpture.
His diverse interests lead him to produce a variety of work, but the major emphasis of his work is set in figurative art. In this respect, the figure could be realistic when working directly from the model, or, while in sculpture, the figure is a catalyst producing images beyond observational realism.
This wide range of interests is reflected in his studio, a few blocks from Rutgers campus, which comprises a ceramic studio, painting and sculpture studio, welding and print-making shop. His extensive background and technical competency are valuable for students who are exploring their own various interests in art.
